Some will know Susan and many have heard of her. After
all she and her small but exceptional team have been
professionally involved in the business of training and
racing horses for nearly 20 years, turning out the best
part of 200 winners and consistently achieving £80,000
prize money per year for her horse owners. Over the past
five years each horse has averaged £750 each time it has
run in a race.
Anyone is welcome at any time to come to Cunnoquhie Cottage and look round our facilities
and see the horses work, rest & play.
Four furlong grass Sprint
This is situated along the side of a burn ensuring flat ground and
good turf. We find that it is ideal for the horses as a sharp pipe
opener just before they are due to race.
Five Furlong Summer Gallop
As the name suggests we tend to use this in the Summer months, but that extends through to late Spring and
early Autumn. No matter how dry the weather gets, the turf on this uphill gallop remains cushiony and
therefore safe for the horses.
2x2 furlong steep grass gallops each rising 50m
We firmly believe in variety at Cunnoquhie and this facility is another variation for the horses offering
them a steep incline to really make them work.
Starting Stalls
We are better known for having jumpers in the yard but training on the flat is still very much an option.
Cantering Circle
Slow work is important for the horses, particularly when they are just starting their campaign and building up
their fitness, and long slow canters are an important stage. Bearing in mind some can be pretty fresh when
they are starting to get fit, the pilots on board have their fitness tested with the pulling horses!
All Weather Arena
This is very much a multi purpose facility used throughout the season. It can be used for some disciplining
flat work, as well as teaching the horses to jump with a set of show jumps which can be adjusted.
Horse Walker
Our horse walker has capacity for four horses, and is in constant use. We often put horses on it before they
go out for exercise. It is also used for horses just coming back from injury or coming into training.
