As you can see from the photograph above the gallops are underway
this will be a state of the art 5 furlong circuit on deep sand that is
the first of its kind in the British Isles. It is an exact replica of 1st
and 2nd leading trainers in France and will allow for schooling work
and mock races. The project will be called the Langholm Community Gallop and will be open to the public for
a set fee per usage and to horses in the yard for a set minimal levy per week. Colin Barnfather will be taking
bookings as well as us here at The Craig once the gallop is opened officially in September.
At the Craig we have all the tools needed to produce and develop the very
best out of each horse in training. Just take a good look at the hills! We
have over 2000 acres of them! What better way to build stamina into a
horse? We have a deep Sand Ménage for gymnastic schooling, Varying
gallops, Many types of schooling facilities and Starting Stalls for Flat
runners. Each horse is given individual one to one attention and trained
according to their need. Craig Farm, Langholm an organic beef and sheep
farm craigfarmorganics.co.uk is an ideal location to train, with acres of
peat hill to work on, an entirely natural surface that never freezes and good organic pastures for horses to
rest through the summer. Every day the horses can work in a different area ensuring they have a more natural
and ‘normal lifestyle’. The facilities include the ‘all-weather’ gallop, 6 furlongs of peat moor, a shorter 5-
furlong steep hill and a 7-furlong grass hill gallop. Also installed is a replica of the French 1-furlong Schooling
Ménage, 2 Mock racetracks with Hurdles and Chase fences, Starting Stall's and a Lunging Ring for breaking
loose schooling. You are always welcome to visit to look at the facilities and watch the schooling work.
